Accessible testing for COVID-19 is critical for beating this disease, and one of the most common methods of screening is Antibody Testing. Cover Technology is excited to announce that we have In office or at home COVID-19 AntibodyTesting Kits available for purchase!

Still wondering what antibody testing is and how it works? Read on for more, as well as instructions for our At-Home COVID-19 Antibody Testing Kit.

What is Antibody Testing?

There are two major types of testing, antibody testing and antigen testing. Antibody testing involves scanning a blood sample for the presence of specific antibodies, proteins released during immune response to counteract specific pathogens. The COVID-19 test looks for Immunoglobulin G (IgG), as measuring the levels of this antibody in the blood can indicate your immune status to certain pathogens, COVID-19 among them.

In contrast, antigen testing usually involves taking a swab of the nose or throat, scanning collected material for the presence of an antigen, molecular structures on the surface of a virus.

An antibody test discovers if you have had a virus previously. An antigen test discovers if you have it now.

The Benefits of Antibody Testing

If an antibody test can’t tell you whether you currently have a virus, what makes it so valuable? They have a variety of uses, both for personal health decisions and for the medical community’s larger understanding of COVID-19 and other viruses:

  • Understanding potential immunity: if you have developed COVID-19 antibodies, you may be immune to catching the virus again.
  • Understanding personal risk: if you don’t have COVID-19 antibodies, you can be infected with the virus.
  • Increased medical understanding of viral spread.
  • More comprehensive counts of infection numbers.
  • Increased medical understanding of immune response to COVID-19.

How the COVID-19 Antibody Test Works

The COVID-19 Antibody Test Kit is a simple process that’s easy to complete in the office or at home.

  1. Lay the collection card on a flat surface, with its circles visible.
  2. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. This will help stimulate blood flow to your fingertips.
  3. Choose either the ring or middle finger on your non-dominant hand.
  4. Wipe the tip of your chosen finger with an alcohol wipe.
  5. Use the included safety lancet to prick the chosen finger on the side of your fingertip.
  6. Squeeze from the bottom of your finger to the top to create a drop of blood.
  7. Fill the collection circle with a single drop of blood.
  8. Wipe your finger with the included gauze pad and cover the spot with the included bandage.
